I always thought that I would specialize in fire, something useful that I could use to help fight strigoi but no, i'd gotten stuck with air. What good was air against strigoi? The most I could do would be to use my magic to make them float or fly around the room a bit, that didnt seem very threatening and it didnt seem very useful. That was the biggest part of why I was out here so late...or well, early. Turns on it was morning which usually meant it was time for people to start going to sleep. Moroi coudlnt really go out in alot of sunlight due to their sensitive skin but I often used that to my advantage.
While most people were in bed or getting ready to go to bed, I was out here, hiding in the shadows of the trees. The leaves were just think enough to block out most of the suns rays and the only bit of sun that ever hit me wasnt as strong as I thought. It hit my feet which didnt seem like that big a deal, they were mostly covered, only my toes were visible. Bright maroon painted toenails with a brillant gold trim. I had gotten permission from Kirova to go out last weekend. I went to a spa, got a manicure and a pedicure, bought some new clothes and make-up which I was happy with. My supply had been running out and I didnt view wearing make-up a problem so long as I didnt look like a prostitute.
A small yawn escaped my lips and I realized I had been out here for two hours, doing absolutely nothing...well, not entriely. I had a book with me; The Catcher In The Rye. It wasnt an amazing book but it was good enough though to be quite honest, i'd gotten bored of it pretty quickly so I tossed the book to the side and looked around, making sure no one was around and then I smiled, the air around me lessened, anyone who wasnt me would probably have difficulty breathing, they'd be light headed from the sudden lack of oxygen but then just as quickly as i'd decreased air levels, I increased it...it might have been a bit more than I had expected, even I was effected by the heavy and thick air around me. I felt my head aching, like someone had been squeezing my skull but I didnt stop, the academy refused to teach us how to use our magic for defense and I knew that there was a small chance I wouldnt get a guardian. Things weren't always fair when it came ot Royals and non-royals. Non-royals often got left with no guardians while a royal could have more than one or two.
I had to be able to defend myself and my power was really all I had.
I increased the amount of air around me again, making it thicker and heavier. I was having trouble breathing now...it was weird for someone who could use their magic as a weapon to be effected but I had only been practicing like this for a little over a week and hadnt gotten the hang of it. My vision blurred as I realized I was using more energy than I meant to, still I pushed on.
Heavier and thicker, it was like my head was about to explode. I could feel the air not only around me but the air I breathed had gotten thicker than I meant to, I blinked and broke my concentration quickly only to lean against the tree. I was sweating a bit but I was also hoping that no one had noticed the change in air or the fact that I had whimpered for a few seconds just before catching my breath.
