Being a guardian was something I was proud of, I took pride in knowing that people depended on me, that I was responsible for protecting someone and that I was depended on. Sometimes the pressure was too much but I sucked it up and did what needed to be done. Today was no different. I woke up a bit earlier than I usually did, mostly because I had to switch places with the guardian who had been working security most of the night. I relieved him of his duties and took my place in the halls. Occasionally, I walked into rooms at random, doing a sweep of the place and making sure no strigoi had gotten in and that no students were out and about when they shouldn't be. Of course there were a few students who'd come out of their rooms but upon being asked why they were out and about they responded that they were going for a drink of water. I was skeptical of this, five students going for water at the same time? That wasn't likely 'you four stay with me' I pointed to the last remained person and with little hesitation nodded my head, telling him to go get water.
I allowed them one by one to get water, making sure that the person before had come back before sending the other. After all five had gotten their water I sent them back to their rooms.
All in all it had been a pretty boring and uneventful time for me. I dozed off from time to time but not enough for anything to go wrong. I always snapped awake a few seconds later, either by a small gust of wind or by my own thoughts. Outside the sun was starting to set which meant school hours were starting soon. It was an odd schedule to live by but because Moroi couldnt go into much sunlight due to their sensitive skin, school hours ran at nocturnal times, starting after sunset and ending just a few hours before sunrise. I realized then that this was my first official day as a teacher here. My first two days had been mostly about me getting reacquainted with the school, getting tours by some of the other teachers and meeting the other guardians that I'd be working with.
Another guardian, shorter than I was and a female came to relieve me of my guard duties and I offered a nod of thanks to her before making my way to the class I'd be teaching. I was expecting a loud and rowdy class. Most novices saw things as I used to...they weren't official guardians yet so they still had time to goof off. They'd be wrong. They wouldn't be goofing off in my classroom...okay, well it wasn't exactly a classroom. There were no desks or chairs, merely something that resembled bleachers and then mats on the floor.
I stood in the doorway for a moment, my face emotionless and unreadable as I surveyed the classroom, getting a feel for the students before a small smile tugged my lips, I quickly let the smile fade as entered the room. It was unusual for me to smile, I tried as hard as I could to keep my emotions in check. They only got in the way of work "First, lets get introductions out of the way, my name is Ivan Greystone and no, I dont want you to call me 'Guardian Greystone' lets keep things friend. You can just call me Ivan." my mother is from Ireland so I had a slight Irish accent but not thick enough for it to be truly noticeable but it was there. "I know a few of you from my arrival a few days ago but for those I dont know..." I paused, looking each person in the eyes before continuing "Lets get one thing clear...you will take this class seriously or I will go to Miss Kirova and discuss your removal from the Academy."
My face remained serious and then I shrugged off my suit jacket, my neck length hair was tied back into a very low and loose ponytail, revealing my Molnija Marks, four of them on the back of my neck, a reminder of my strigoi kills "Before we get into physical training, I wanna know...what are the advantages and disadvantages a strigoi might have compared to dhampirs?" it was best to see where they were with their training before I got too far into things. I didnt want to push them into physical combat training if they weren't ready for it. As I spoke I set my silver stake off to the side and picked up my pant leg, unhooking my small machete like sword from my leg and set it down beside my stake, waiting for my answer.

Being a guardian was something we were trained to do. We were trained to protect the moroi, that’s what we were born to do. Why they push it all on us, and not teach their own people to fight was unknown to me. Why were they willing to get rid of us to fast, when they needed us to even stay alive? True I wouldn’t want Ivanka to fight; I would want to protect her. Some moroi say we are greatly grieved, I’m not so sure about that. They were willing to see us die before them before strigoi so much as touched them. The one question them never ask themselves is, what if your guardian falls and your left alone to defend yourself?
Guardian class was here to help us out in the real world. It all really depended on who taught us, and how well they were. I had heard there was a new guardian on campus, one who has been on duty and fought many battles. I was curious about what he would teach us, and how well he would teach it. The one guardian named Beliov had left to head to court, building a relationship with a guardian named Hathaway. It was only heard of twice. Didn’t they realize how important the moroi were to us? Male dhampirs couldn’t produce offspring, though no on knew why.
I was walking from my room after just finishing up my changes into some work out clothes. Nothing huge and stylish, but some gym shorts and a t-shirt. True we weren’t always going to wear this when we were with our moroi, but is what was required when we were in this class. As I was on my to my class, I couldn’t help but think about Ivanka, the lovely moroi of my life. I would do anything to protect her. I only hoped she would stop feeling like she was a bad omen. She was the best thing had happened to me, and she couldn’t make me think otherwise.
Passing a couple of other novices just getting out of their rooms for class, I heard some starting to talk about the new instructor. I walked by, overhearing some things. They were mostly how he stopped them from going to ‘get water’ together. I smiled, knowing they were the ones who had always tried to go off and smoke some, mostly moroi. I came out of the halls, seeing the guardians all getting ready for the day, some already on duty.
I continued down the steps until I come to the gym, seeing a quarter of my class already entered. I followed them, setting my jacket on the floor by the wall, looking around me and smelling the gym. I loved this place out of the whole academy. I started to stretch, standing in a group that was talking about this new guardian. As usual people were already creating rumors. It was always funny to see what they had come up with, until I saw him myself.
The was tall, and had dark hair, but he had this expression on that said it was business, until I saw that slight smile on his face. I began to wonder what amused him so much. Probably this pathetic looking group of dhampirs. More novices entered in right after him, hurrying in before the class started. I crack my neck, watching as he laid his weapons out and started to speak.
"First, lets get introductions out of the way, my name is Ivan Greystone and no, I don't want you to call me 'Guardian Greystone' lets keep things friend. You can just call me Ivan."
Listening to him start was weird. I never had a new teacher in my years here. I’ve had the same one ever since my elementary years here. I watched him closely.
"Lets get one thing clear...you will take this class seriously or I will go to Miss Kirova and discuss your removal from the Academy."
I heard a few of the guys snickering and whispering to themselves, wondering what he would really do if they acted up. Surely he wouldn’t kick them out of the school? Where else would they go? We took it seriously, but there were some fun and playful times we all had in this class, but we always got ourselves back on track.
"Before we get into physical training, I wanna know...what are the advantages and disadvantages a strigoi might have compared to dhampirs?"
I only rolled my eyes, we heard of this before. We were already into the physical shit by now. Was he really that crazy? We where about to graduate. I saw someone raise their hand. "They are stronger, faster, and a lot harder to kill.” I heard one girl yell out. I glanced down, not really recognizing her. She must have been one of the underclassmen of the school. I only looked back to the teacher, hearing another girl giggle.
words: 832 tag: Ivan Greystone muse: not very great thoughts: in class, and I know I’m like going to get in trouble lol sorry if it’s crappy.

I knew all too well that this group of guardians were on the verge of graduation but a bit of memory refreshing never hurt anyone, besides learning and remembering the advantages and disadvantages when fighting strigoi were just as important and protecting your moroi if not more important. After all how can one protect their moroi if they can hardly protect themselves? I realized that me saying I would discuss their removal from the school sounded like a joke and then they snickered and whispered amongst themselves I only smiled "You probably think im joking, but I assure you im not. And believe me, discussing your expulsion with the headmistress would be the nicer way to go about getting rid of people who cant and wont take this class serious. To those of you laughing, shut the hell up. I dont remember telling a joke. If you want a jke, perhaps looking into a mirror would amuse you more, seeing as your face is quite possibly the single best joke i've known in years." I flashed a small smile, a perfect and white smile.
"So, lets get one other thing clear...if you get on my bad side, say or do something to piss me off and you'll find yourself waiting another year for graduation...or I could put you out of your misery here and now. I have no problem with beating some sense into the lot of you."
As I let those words sink in, I could hear some of the louder students falling silent with my threats and I smiled again "Good, its nice to see your good at following instruction. That means I wont have to try so hard as to get you to listen and do as I say."
I surveyed the room, still waiting for an answer. It surprised me that only one person had raised her hand. To be honest, I was hoping more people would partake in answering the question "Only one? Well thats somewhat disappointing. I was actually thinking about letting you all train with these today..." he pointed toward the door where a young dhampir woman, no older than nineteen was bringing in silver stakes and even swords "But since she seems to be the only person who either knows the answer or the only person to want to answer the question, perhaps I bit of a reminder is in order, hm?" I raised an eyebrow before turning to the young guardian and put a hand up to stop her "Thank you for bringing these in Lucy, give your mother my love and tell her I wish her a speedy recovery. Its a shame to have a guardian like herself out of commision due to an injury." when she nodded and smiled politely, I smiled back "I'll see you later Lucy."
"Bye Ivan." I heard her speak in a rather hushed voice.
I turned back to the class and upon hearing the girl giggle, I smirked. I always had that effect on people "Now, I think a bit of a talk as to how much I know that you dont is in order...first, I am the only guardian known to have killed their first strigoi at the age of eleven, even more I was the youngest person to receive a molnija mark...dont think that just because im asking you a question about something you already know that I know nothing. I know that your well into physical training, but its not only my job to train you, its my job to make sure you remember what you've learned thus far...to those who rolled your eyes a few moments ago, I would advise you not to jump to conclusions about me again and to those of you still whispering and talking and being rude, take a seat. Im excluding you lot from class today."
I didnt like being strict but it was needed "The rest of you, those of you still standing...get in line, when I say so, try and...well, I would say try and beat me to a pulp but I dont think that would be likely so just try and land as many hits as you can at me. I need to see where you stand with agility, stamina..." he looked at Ethan "You first, come on then. You rolled your eyes when I asked about strigoi so clearly you must be some kind of fighting expert...come at me."
